Mission Statement

Holy Spirit Helping Hands is an organization found by Holy Spirit Catholic School that is bound to help the Philippines. We will be selling bracelets and necklaces to everyone who would like to help the Philippines. 100% of the money will be donated for the people who are stranded in the Philippines from the recent typhoon, Haiyan. We would spread the word by making posters, videos, and comic strips. All of this is going to be posted on our blog called “Holy Spirit Helping Hands”. To conclude, our organization is glad and honored to help our friends, relatives, and families from the Philippines.
God Bless

Proudest Moment as a Teacher

Thursday was a very productive day with Holy Spirit's Helping Hands. It was easily one of my proudest days as a teacher. The students all worked very hard and have started taking full responsibility for the organization. The students were all working hard on their own tasks. Most making bracelets and necklaces, some writing posts and others designing videos.
Half way through the day, some of my grade 5/6 students came up to me asking to discuss the organization. The students proposed to sell the bracelets at Parent-Teacher Interview Night. The students called their parents, planned and set up a booth and made posters. In just a few hours, the students had many $200-$300 by selling $2-$3 bracelets. These students who organized this, exemplified everything I want to instil in my students. These students are not memorizing a worksheet; they are finding their passion, using their gifts, developing skills that will matter in the world.

Help the Philippines

Hello,
I am one of the students of Holy Spirit's Helping Hands. All of us who joined the group were very sad after we heard about the typhoon that occurred in the Philippines. Our teacher, Mr.Butler, arranged this group so we could help raise money for the Philippines. All the money will be going to a charity called Share Life, they will be putting the money towards helping the people in the Philippines get food, water and homes restored there. We are making bracelets and necklaces for donation money. These bracelets and necklaces will have 4 different coloured beads: blue, red, white, and yellow. These are the colours of the Filipino flag. Each colour has a different meaning. Blue: The tears of the people of the Philippines after the typhoon. Red: The blood, sweat and tears we put into helping the Philippines. White: The kindness of any of you who bought these bracelets to help them there. Yellow: The light we bring to the Philippines after we send them the donations. Yes, all of these beads have a meaning but by buying these bracelets and necklaces and wearing them that symbolizes that you helped save the Philippines. So please buy one it goes to a really good cause and we all really want to help. Most of us in this group have someone or someone who has a relative that was in the Philippines when the typhoon struck. So please buy one. Thank you for reading what I have to say.

What the bracelets mean

"We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope. "- Martin Luther King, Jr.
I was born in the Philippines and I grew up there. Seeing it in a bad condition, I feel sad, knowing it was
my home. My teacher, Mr. Butler, has made a group, "Holy Spirit Helping Hands, " to help raise money for the Philippines. The students in this group work so hard to make the bracelets and necklaces. Giving just $2 you'll be giving happiness to a child. Think of it as a Christmas present; raising money for them to buy food and make shelter could be the best present you'll ever give. Even through the bad condition, we must never lose hope in making this world a better place.

The first wave of student made bracelets and necklaces have been made. In just one lunch period the students at Holy Spirit made over 300 pieces of jewelry. The colours mimic those of in the Philippines flag. Tomorrow they will be attaching a small prayer of hope to the special symbols.
